The M4 J18 to A46 approach is the standard London route. Do not drive into the city centre — use the Park & Ride. Central Bath parking is limited (£4–6/hour) and the streets are narrow.

Bristol Airport is the closest airport to Bath, roughly 20 miles, and Bath has no airport of its own. The bus you want is service A4, long branded the Air Decker and now run by First Bus under its Airport Flyer services — not the A1, which goes to Bristol city centre instead. The old airdecker.com no longer resolves; the timetable lives on the First Bus site. The A4 runs roughly hourly and takes about an hour and ten minutes. It is a stopping service rather than an express: the route calls at Highridge, Hengrove, Brislington, Keynsham, Saltford and Newbridge on the way in, which is why it takes longer than the 20-mile distance suggests. If you are arriving late or with luggage and a family, a taxi is materially quicker. Timetable and fares on the operator's site.

For visiting sites outside the centre — Prior Park, Bathampton village, Little Solsbury Hill — local First Bus services run regularly. Taxis are available from the station rank and via apps (Uber operates in Bath but local firms can be more reliable at night).
